Voicing out Silences
'Voicing Out Silences' is part of the 'You better say our names. Working towards pluricultural futures’ series. The project took shape this May in Zambia with a discursive programme and an exhibition at The National Gallery of Zambia and the National Museum of Zambia.
The exhibition unfolds the practices and reflections of six art practicioners as a result of a home-based residency. The six residents form a constellation of three exchanges. The first one consists of Grace Tabea Tenga (nominated by OCA) and Gladys Kalichini (nominated by LoCA). The second exchange is constituted by Maritea Dæhlin (nominated by OCA) and Marton Robinson (nominated by Casa Ma). And Julianny Ariza (nominated by Casa Ma) together with Benny Blow (nominated by LoCA) form the third exchange.
At the core of the project is the strengthening of networks amongst the art community in Africa, Norway and the Caribbean – working together towards pluricultural futures through discourse and collaborative perspectives.
In addition to the exhibitions and programme, the publication ‘Voicing Out Silences’, published in cooperation with ASSATA, encompasses contributions from Anawana Haloba, Gala Berger, Golden Mirrors Arts Norway, Grace Tabea Tenga, Itzel Esquivel, Kabila Kyowa Stéphane Emery, Rafiki, Ruth Simbao, Yuderkys Espinosa Miñoso, Yuniris Ramírez Familia.
‘Voicing Out Silences’ is a collaboration between OCA, The Livingstone Office for Contemporary Arts (LoCA) in Zambia and the artist community Casa Ma in Costa Rica.
