OCA Semesterplan – Autumn 2011

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Launch of `Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia?', an anthology published by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway and Koenig Books, London

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the project with the same name held at OCA in 2008/09, Whatever Happened to Sex in Scandinavia? reflects upon the juncture of the political and erotic in the 1960s and 70s in relation to the image of Scandinavia as a sexually and politically utopic territory during those decades.

Book presentation in NY
The first public presentation of the anthology will be held at Artists Space in New York, USA, on 2 December at 19:00. In collaboration with Artists Space, OCA will screen Barbara Rubin’s double-projection film Christmas on Earth (1963). The film will be introduced by MM Serra, Executive Director of the Film-Makers’ Cooperative in New York, and screened from two overlapping projectors following the artist’s original instructions. Conclusion of 'The State of Things'

---------------------------------------------------------------------

'The State of Things', Norway's official contribution to the Venice biennial, closed on 17 November 2011 with the lecture 'The Experience of Defeat' by T.J. Clark. By inviting speakers Jaques Rancière, Leo Bersani, Vandana Shiva, Jan Egeland, Eyal Weizman, Judith Butler, Franco Berardi, Saskia Sassen and T.J. Clark to speak about what they considered the intellectual and political priorities of today, based on their respective fields of activity and research, the lecture series brought to the biennial a discussion of the urgent issues affecting the world today. With the curtain falling on the Norwegian participation at La Biennale di Venezia 2011, we would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their generous support and contribution.

A publication compiling all the papers is scheduled to appear in 2012. Recordings of the lectures are available in the audiovisual archive in OCA's website.
